RV’s are different than your home sewer system; RV’s have waste holding tanks that need to be dumped when almost full. Fortunately, there are lot of options when it comes to where to dump your RV waste holding tanks.
Full Hook Ups
The easiest way to dump your RV waste holding tanks is to camp at a full hook up site. Hook up your sewer pipe or stinky slinky, open your valves and away it all goes into the campgrounds septic system.
But some of the best places to camp don’t have full hook ups and sometimes we are dry camping so what do we do to dump our RV waste holding tanks in those situations?
Campgrounds & RV Parks with Dump Stations
Most campgrounds and RV parks that have sites without sewer hookups have a dump station. Not all but most! For those that do, if you are camping for short periods of time, you can dump on your way out.
Honey Wagons
If you are going to be camping longer term, a honey wagon is a great option for dumping tanks. These portable waste holding tanks can be easily transported to the dump station if you are in a park with a dump station.
Pay to Dump
If you are camping where there is no dump station, you can pay to dump at campgrounds and RV parks that have full hook ups or dump stations.
Some truck stops and gas stations have dump stations. You can also check at sporting goods stores, marinas, RV dealerships, wastewater treatment plants, recycling centers,
$10-$20 is the going rate to pay to dump.

Rest Areas
Some states have RV dump stations at their rest areas and may be free! Check the states Department of Transportation for rest area locations and amenities.
Dump at Home
Some people have installed a sewer hookup at home for easy RV tank dumping.
Macerator Pump
Or consider a macerator pump. A macerator pump is basically a garbage disposal. But for RV tank dumping, it is an amazing little machine. Hook your RV sewer line to this machine, attach a hose and put that into your home sewer clean out or toilet. Open your tanks and watch in amazement at how fast your RV waste disappears!
FYI these machines are 12 volt and need a 12 volt power source.
Mobile Septic Pumping Services
Call your local septic pumping companies to find out if they can pump the waste from your RV tanks. These companies are mobile and will come to you, for a fee of course.
And that is the poop on dumping your RV waste holding tanks! Happy Camping and Happy Dumping
